Apollon Limassol signs Ike Ugbo on loan from Sheffield Wednesday
Apollon Limassol has officially announced the acquisition of 27-year-old striker Ike Ugbo on a season-long loan deal from the English club Sheffield Wednesday for the 2026-2027 campaign. The move is intended to reinforce the team's offensive line following the departure of Pedro Marques. Ugbo, a Canada international born in London with Nigerian roots, has a significant professional career background, having emerged from the Chelsea academy and played for various clubs across Europe, including Cercle Brugge, Genk, Troyes, and Cardiff City.
The transfer was heavily driven by Apollon’s coach, Hernan Losada, who personally pushed for the signing due to his familiarity with the player’s capabilities from their time together in the Belgian league. During the 2020-21 season, Ugbo recorded his most productive period by scoring 16 league goals in 32 appearances while at Cercle Brugge, where he faced Losada's team as an opponent. The club is now integrating the forward into the squad as they prepare for upcoming Conference League challenges and the local domestic season.
