DISY leadership reviews internal polling for the 2028 presidential elections

The Democratic Rally (DISY) party has conducted a comprehensive pan-Cypriot poll of 1,500 people to assess various scenarios for the 2028 presidential elections. The results, presented to the party's leadership in late July 2026, suggest that party president Annita Demetriou is the strongest candidate for DISY, currently being the only figure who reliably secures a spot in the second round in all tested scenarios against potential opponents, including incumbent President Nikos Christodoulides and AKEL's Andreas Mavroyiannis.

The findings indicate a fluid political environment where the final ballot composition is critical. In a primary scenario tested, Andreas Mavroyiannis polled at 30%, Annita Demetriou at 26%, and Nikos Christodoulides at 24%. Leadership intends to use these results as a strategic tool to consolidate support behind a single nominee and avoid divisive internal competition. While Annita Demetriou has stated that official nomination discussions are premature, the party is expected to commission further research in September to refine its electoral strategy.
