DISY party poll highlights Annita Demetriou's strength for presidential election
A recent pan-Cypriot poll commissioned by the Democratic Rally (DISY) party has identified party president Annita Demetriou as its most viable candidate for the upcoming presidential elections. The survey, which utilized a sample size of 1,500 people, was presented to the party's senior leadership on July 29, 2026, marking the beginning of a data-driven approach to selecting the party’s official nominee.
According to the findings, Demetriou is the only DISY candidate capable of securing a spot in the second round of voting across all tested scenarios. In one specific simulation involving candidates Nikos Christodoulides and Andreas Mavroyiannis, Mavroyiannis polled at 30%, Demetriou at 26%, and Christodoulides at 24%. Conversely, the data indicated that if Averof Neofytou or George Pamboridis were to run as the DISY candidate, they would fail to reach the second round, leaving the contest between Christodoulides and the AKEL candidate. The party is now planning an additional, more targeted survey that will focus exclusively on the opinions of current DISY members.
