National eHealth Authority issues advice for travelers using cross-border health services

The National eHealth Authority of Cyprus issued an advisory on July 30, 2026, for citizens traveling within the European Union. The guidance focuses on utilizing the MyHealth@EU network, which facilitates the secure exchange of essential health information and enables the cross-border fulfillment of electronic prescriptions at participating pharmacies abroad.

Travelers are urged to take three proactive steps before departing: requesting a summary of their medical history from their personal physician, ensuring their electronic prescriptions are properly registered, and verifying which countries currently support these cross-border digital health services. These measures are designed to ensure continuity of care and improve safety in the event of a medical emergency during travel.

This initiative is part of the European MyHealth@EU network, which connects various member states to allow health professionals access to critical patient data, such as medical summaries, regardless of the patient's home country. The authority emphasizes that proper preparation before travel is essential for accessing these services effectively, as the infrastructure relies on data being available and authorized prior to an incident occurring while abroad.
