British bases police open new marine satellite station at Episkopi Bay

The Sovereign Base Areas (SBA) Police have established a new marine satellite station at Episkopi Bay to improve maritime surveillance and emergency response capabilities. The facility officially began operations this week, aiming to extend the reach of the existing Akrotiri Marine Station and provide a more rapid presence across a broader coastal area.

During the initial phase, the station will operate exclusively on weekends throughout the peak summer season, running from June to September. The unit will be staffed by existing personnel from the SBA police and is tasked with conducting security patrols, enforcing maritime laws, and participating in search and rescue missions when necessary. According to Sergeant Nicolas Perdiou, a marine unit instructor, the station is designed to enhance operational visibility and reduce response times during critical incidents on the water.

This development is part of the British Bases' broader strategy to strengthen public safety and maritime enforcement within their area of jurisdiction. The new base acts as a force multiplier, allowing the marine unit to maintain a more consistent and effective watch over the coastline during high-traffic months.
