Nicosia police investigate attempted murder after shooting attack on moving vehicle

Police in Nicosia are investigating an attempted murder after a 43-year-old man of Arab descent reported that unidentified individuals opened fire on his rental vehicle on the night of July 29, 2026. The incident occurred on the road between the University of Cyprus and Geri in the Athalassa area. The victim, who was reportedly accompanied by a second person, did not stop at the scene and reported the incident to authorities several hours later. Forensic examination of the rental car revealed several bullet holes, and investigators are currently searching for CCTV footage to track the perpetrators and identify whether the attack involved a high-powered motorcycle.

Authorities have secured evidence from the scene, including potential shell casings, for laboratory analysis. In a separate, unrelated incident reported on July 30, a 23-year-old man was arrested for injuring a 43-year-old man with his vehicle at a car repair shop in a different part of the Nicosia district, a case currently handled by the Pera Chorio Police Station.
