Recent crime wave results in multiple arrests across Cyprus

Cypriot law enforcement has executed several arrests regarding a series of violent incidents reported between July 29 and August 1, 2026. In one case, two men aged 41 and 30 were arrested at Larnaca airport for the attempted murder of a 43-year-old man, who came under fire while driving a rental vehicle in Nicosia on July 29. Separately, six Syrian nationals were arrested for the alleged abduction of a 20-year-old in Famagusta and extortion, following an incident where the victim was held against his will before being released after midnight on July 30.

In other incidents, a 23-year-old was arrested in the Nicosia district for attacking a 43-year-old bystander with his vehicle at a car repair shop after causing a disturbance. Meanwhile, a 20-year-old was remanded for four days by the Limassol District Court for the stabbing of a 19-year-old during an altercation outside a premises in Limassol on July 31. The victim, who suffered lacerations to the head and shoulder, remains in stable condition. Authorities continue to investigate these unrelated criminal cases, with all suspects currently in custody.
