Iran to purchase Chinese-made air defense missile systems

Iran is reportedly preparing to receive a shipment of 300 to 400 shoulder-fired air-defense missile systems, known as MANPADS, within the coming weeks. The contract, valued between $60 million and $70 million, involves Chinese-made QW-12 and FN-16 missiles. According to three informed sources, the deal was facilitated by Zhongqing Baoshang International Investment, a Hong Kong-based intermediary acting on behalf of the Chinese supplier.

This procurement represents a significant effort by Tehran to bolster its short-range air defenses, which were identified as vulnerable during the ongoing military conflict with the United States and Israel. The acquisition aims to better protect critical military installations and strategic infrastructure that have faced challenges during the prolonged hostilities.

While the transaction has been reported by multiple sources, the Chinese Foreign Ministry has officially denied the claims, describing them as entirely groundless. Iran’s foreign ministry has not yet provided an official response to the reports regarding this multi-million dollar defense acquisition.
