Cypriot judoka Petros Christodoulides reaches career-high world ranking

Cypriot judoka Petros Christodoulides has reached the 26th position in the world rankings for the -66kg weight class, marking the highest point in his professional career to date. This three-place rise comes ahead of his participation in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where he is scheduled to compete on Friday, July 31.

The tournament features 18 athletes in the -66kg category, with Christodoulides and fellow countryman Giorgos Balarjishvili identified as key medal contenders alongside Australia's Middleton and Canada's Frascadore. The broader Cypriot judo delegation also includes Odysseas Georgakis (-81kg), Aristos Michael (-100kg), Giannis Antoniou (+100kg), Sofia Asvesta (-52kg), and Zanet Michaelidou (-78kg).

To prepare for the competition, Christodoulides completed an intensive training camp at the Nippon Sport Science University in Japan. During this period, he engaged with elite Japanese athletes to improve his competitive readiness for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
