Cyprus tourism revenue decreases in May 2026

In May 2026, tourism revenue in Cyprus reached €355.2 million, marking a 4.8% decrease compared to the €373.3 million recorded in May 2025. Data released by the Statistical Service indicates that tourist arrivals also saw a decline of 4.9%, dropping from 479,160 in May 2025 to 455,680. For the period of January to May 2026, total revenue is estimated at €798.2 million, down 16.5% from the €955.8 million generated during the same period in 2025.

Despite the reduction in overall revenue, per capita tourist spending remained nearly stagnant at €779.42, compared to €779.08 in May 2025. However, the average daily expenditure increased from €96.18 to €105.33, a shift attributed to a decrease in the average duration of stay from 8.1 to 7.4 days. The United Kingdom remains the largest market, accounting for 36.3% of total visitors, followed by Israel at 11.8% and Poland at 8.2%. Israeli tourists showed the highest daily spending at €178.18, compared to €102.23 for British tourists and €85.41 for Polish tourists.

These statistics reflect a broader downward trend in the tourism sector for the first five months of the year, although the monthly decline in May showed signs of stabilization.
