Yellow heat warning issued for Cyprus as wildfire risk remains at red alert

The Department of Meteorology in Cyprus has issued a new yellow weather warning for extreme heat, effective on July 31, 2026, from 14:00 to 16:30. Temperatures in the interior of the country are expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius, while coastal areas will see maximums between 33 and 37 degrees. The weather is forecast to remain clear and sunny throughout the upcoming weekend, with no significant temperature changes, keeping values consistently above average seasonal levels.

Simultaneously, authorities have maintained a red alert status for the risk of forest fires across the country. The Department of Forests has issued an urgent appeal to the public to exercise extreme caution and avoid any activities that could potentially trigger a blaze. Citizens are reminded that causing a forest fire is a serious criminal offense punishable by strict penalties. In the event of observing smoke or fire, the public is urged to immediately contact the Forest Department at 1407 or the Fire Service at 112.
