Cyprus government approves 1.17 million euros in agricultural disaster aid

On July 30, 2026, the Cypriot Council of Ministers approved a financial relief package of up to €1.17 million to support farmers impacted by severe weather conditions and natural disasters. This initiative, proposed by the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, aims to assist producers who suffered damages to crops and fixed capital throughout the 2025-2026 period.

The compensation covers various sectors, including winter potatoes, citrus fruits, avocados, olives, medlars, and bananas damaged by a tornado, as well as infrastructure destroyed by wildfires. Approximately 610 beneficiaries are expected to receive funding through the Agricultural Production Protection and Insurance Fund, in accordance with the Law on Risk Management in Agricultural Production. The Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that recent improvements to administrative procedures have successfully reduced the payment processing time by approximately two months, ensuring that farmers receive the necessary financial aid with greater efficiency.
