Bail hearing for father in Xylophagou child death case adjourned

A hearing took place on Thursday at the British Bases court in Dhekelia regarding a 30-year-old father accused of causing the deaths of his two young children, aged eight and ten, who were found unresponsive inside a vehicle in the village of Xylophagou. The court session, conducted via video link, was adjourned after the defense requested that the accused be released on bail and permitted to travel to Bulgaria to attend his children's funeral. Defense lawyer Christos Theodoulou argued that his client has no criminal record and maintains strong ties to the region, posing no risk of absconding or interfering with the legal process.

The court, which is being overseen by a senior judge from London, did not reach a decision on Thursday. The proceedings are set to resume on Friday morning at 10:30. Following this, the legal process will continue on September 22, when the defendant will be required to enter a plea. While the investigation remains ongoing, reports indicate that the children were discovered by their stepmother, and the defendant currently denies the allegations against him.
