Cyprus tourism revenue trends show signs of recovery in mid-2026

Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis reported that Cyprus’s tourism sector is returning to a stable trajectory following a challenging start to 2026. Data from the Statistical Service for May 2026 shows a 4.8% decrease in revenue compared to May 2025, yet a 14.4% increase when measured against the same period in 2024. The government attributes this stabilization to coordinated actions between state authorities and the tourism industry.

Regarding the first five months of 2026, total tourism revenue is down 16.5% compared to the same period in 2025. However, this figure represents an improvement of 7.4 percentage points compared to the 23.9% deficit recorded at the end of the first four months of the year. Additionally, revenues for the five-month period show a 6.3% increase when compared to the corresponding period in 2024. Koumis expressed confidence that the revenue gap relative to 2025 will continue to shrink as the year progresses.

The recovery comes despite regional insecurity that impacted the sector during the first few months of the year. The government plans to maintain its current strategic cooperation with industry stakeholders to further support this gradual upward trend.
