Cyprus records lowest unemployment rate in the EU at 3 percent in June

In June 2026, Cyprus reached an unemployment rate of 3 percent, the lowest level in the European Union, tying with Bulgaria. According to data released by Eurostat, this figure marks a decline from 3.1 percent in May 2026 and a significant drop from 4.5 percent in June 2025. The absolute number of unemployed persons in Cyprus decreased to 16,000, down from 23,000 during the same month last year.

The youth unemployment rate for those under 25 years old stood at 7.8 percent in June, with 2,000 young people unemployed. This represents a substantial improvement compared to June 2025, when the rate was 15.2 percent. Across the wider European Union, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained stable at 6.0 percent in June, while the Eurozone recorded a stable rate of 6.3 percent. Eurostat estimates that approximately 13.317 million people were unemployed across the EU during the month, indicating a slight increase compared to May.

Data from the first half of 2026 shows a steady downward trend for Cyprus, with the unemployment rate gradually decreasing from 3.3 percent in March to 3 percent in June.
