Cyprus records lowest unemployment rate in the European Union for June 2026

In June 2026, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Cyprus fell to 3%, reaching the lowest level in the European Union alongside Bulgaria, according to data published by Eurostat. This figure represents a continued downward trend from 3.1% in May 2026 and 4.5% in June 2025. The total number of unemployed individuals in Cyprus remained at 16,000, consistent with the previous month but significantly lower than the 23,000 recorded in the same period last year. Meanwhile, the youth unemployment rate for those under 25 stabilized at 7.8%, accounting for approximately 2,000 young people, down from 15.2% and 5,000 people in June 2025.

Comparatively, the broader Eurozone unemployment rate remained stable at 6.3%, while the EU-wide rate held steady at 6.0%. Eurostat estimated that total unemployment across the EU reached 13.317 million people, marking a slight increase compared to May 2026. While Cyprus has shown a steady monthly decline in unemployment since March 2026, the Eurozone as a whole saw an increase in the total number of unemployed persons by 71,000 over the month. The economic data indicates a favorable labor market performance in Cyprus relative to the broader European trend, which has remained largely stagnant over the past year.
