Escalation between US and Iran follows military strikes in Kuwait and Iranian territory

On July 30, 2026, the United States launched heavy airstrikes against multiple targets in Iran, including the island of Qeshm and the Bushehr province, citing retaliation for Iranian attempts to strike US bases in the Middle East. Iranian state media reported casualties, including the death of three Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) members in the Zanjan province and three family members on Qeshm island, where a residential area was hit.

In response, the Iranian military launched drone attacks against US-affiliated interests in Kuwait, specifically targeting the Ali Al Salem and Ahmed Al Jaber airbases. Reports indicate these strikes destroyed drone hangars, satellite communication systems, and fuel storage facilities. Additionally, Kuwaiti officials confirmed that an Iranian attack struck a building owned by a Chinese company in northern Kuwait, resulting in the death of one worker.

While the IRGC has vowed to continue attacks until US forces withdraw from the region, Pakistan has announced that both parties are currently engaged in negotiations aimed at de-escalation. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has not yet provided an official comment regarding the attacks in Kuwait.
