Recent wildfires in Arsos and Larnaca district

On July 30, 2026, a wildfire broke out in an illegal dump near the community of Arsos in the Limassol district. The fire affected five hectares of land, including dry grass, wild vegetation, waste, and wooden pallets. Firefighting efforts involved eight engines from the Limassol station, six from the Department of Forestry, and four aerial units. The fire was brought under control on the evening of July 30, and the community leader, Giannakis Giannaki, reported finding evidence of potential arson, including clothing with corporate logos, which has been handed to the police.

On July 31, 2026, a separate major wildfire occurred between Koshi and Athienou in the Larnaca district. The fire ignited at three distinct locations simultaneously, prompting the activation of the 'Ikaros II' emergency plan. Seven aircraft and over 14 ground units responded to the blaze, which threatened a nearby National Guard outpost, leading to its preventive evacuation. Authorities are investigating evidence of arson, as the fires appeared in multiple locations along the road. No injuries were reported in either incident.
