Fire breaks out at an illegal landfill in Arsos, Limassol district
On Thursday, July 30, 2026, a fire broke out at an illegal landfill in the village of Arsos, located in the Limassol district. The blaze, which was reported around 13:45, initially appeared contained but subsequently spread to nearby dry grass and wild vegetation, generating thick black smoke visible from significant distances, including Pissouri.
Emergency response operations are currently underway, involving significant personnel and equipment. According to the Fire Service, the effort includes five staffed fire engines from Limassol city and district stations, six vehicles from the Forestry Department, two bulldozers, and four aerial firefighting units. The operation is being coordinated by the Chief Fire Officer and the Head of the Operations Center at the Fire Service Headquarters in collaboration with the incident commander.
While the fire originated at a waste disposal site, the exact extent of the damage is still being assessed.
