Wildfires reported in Arsos and the Koshi-Athienou area

On Thursday, July 30, a fire broke out at a former landfill in Arsos, Limassol district. The blaze, which began at 14:47, consumed five hectares of dry grass, vegetation, and refuse, including wood pallets, before being controlled by 18:19. Eight firefighting vehicles and four aircraft were involved. Local authorities discovered clothing-related items at the scene, which are now being investigated by the police for potential connection to the incident.

On Friday, July 31, a larger fire erupted around 13:35 between Koshi, Athienou, and Lympia in the Larnaca district. The blaze occurred in three separate locations, prompting the activation of the Ikaros II emergency plan. A total of seven aircraft, ten Forestry Department vehicles, and five Fire Service vehicles, supported by 17 personnel, were deployed to fight the flames. Approximately 25 hectares of wild vegetation and stubble were destroyed, and a nearby National Guard outpost was evacuated as a precaution. Authorities are currently investigating the incident as a suspected case of arson due to the simultaneous emergence of the multiple fire fronts.
