Cyprus and France conduct joint search and rescue exercise

On Monday, July 27, 2026, Cyprus and France conducted a joint search and rescue (SAR) exercise named CYFRA 03/26 within the maritime area of responsibility of the Republic of Cyprus. The drill was organized as part of the ongoing defense cooperation agreement between the two nations.

The operation involved a French naval vessel, a search and rescue helicopter from the National Guard General Staff’s Air Command, and the specialized MEDEVAC team from the Ambulance Service. The primary objectives were to enhance interoperability between the Cypriot and French armed forces and to provide rigorous training for crews in responding to emergency maritime incidents.

This exercise represents a continuation of established military collaboration between the two countries, focusing on the tactical coordination of rescue procedures. Officials from the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) highlighted that the drill successfully demonstrated the operational readiness of the participants and solidified the partnership in managing regional maritime safety and security.
