Federation of Environmental Organizations proposes urban mobility changes for Limassol

The Federation of Environmental Organizations of Cyprus (OPOK) has issued a statement calling for a fundamental shift in how public space is planned and utilized to address chronic traffic congestion in Limassol. The organization emphasizes that achieving a functional, safe, and human-centric urban environment requires a collective change in cultural attitudes toward transport and urban design.

OPOK explicitly supports the current Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) for Limassol, describing it as a move in the right direction. The plan includes the integration of bus lanes, cycling infrastructure, Park & Ride facilities, intelligent transport systems, and improved amenities for pedestrians. Furthermore, the federation highlighted that the national Recovery and Resilience Plan mandates the construction of at least 29 kilometers of cycling paths and 11 kilometers of dedicated bus lanes in Limassol and Larnaca, aiming to foster more sustainable transportation alternatives across the cities.
