Thousands of migrants enter Spanish enclave Ceuta

On July 30, 2026, thousands of migrants crossed the border into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in northern Africa. Reports from the Spanish news agency EFE indicate that large groups scaled the border fence, which was reportedly unguarded at the time, while Moroccan auxiliary forces withdrew as the individuals entered the territory. Some arrivals were documented chanting "Viva España" during the crossing.

This incident follows a surge in migration, including the arrival of 1,500 people who reached the city by swimming just last week. Ceuta and Melilla remain the only land borders between the European Union and Africa, frequently serving as focal points for migration attempts. Following the mass influx, Juan Jesus Vivas, the head of Ceuta, has appealed to the national government for support as authorities work to manage the unfolding security situation.
