Tragic river rescue attempt in New Jersey

On Wednesday afternoon, a 10-year-old boy died while attempting to rescue his 11-year-old sister from the Passaic River near Pulaski Park in New Jersey. The incident occurred when three children—the boy, his sister, and a 10-year-old friend—entered the water, which subsequently rose rapidly due to strong currents.

According to Passaic Mayor Hector Lora, the boy managed to push his sister toward the rocks, saving her life before he was swept away. The boy's body was recovered by authorities approximately three hours later, 15 meters from where he entered the river. While one source erroneously claimed a 110-year-old individual performed the rescue, local official reports confirm the victim was a child.

Authorities are currently continuing search operations for the 10-year-old friend of the siblings, who remains missing following the incident.
