Trial of suspended Paphos mayor continues in September

The trial of the suspended mayor of Paphos, Phaidon Phaidonos, continued on Thursday behind closed doors at the Permanent Assize Court in Paphos. The court proceedings were conducted without the public present, following a decision to grant a request submitted by the prosecution. To date, approximately ten prosecution witnesses have provided testimony, out of an original list of eighteen additional witnesses. However, the legal teams are working to establish agreed-upon facts, which is expected to reduce the total number of witnesses to approximately twenty.

Following the session on Thursday, the court announced that a hearing originally scheduled for Friday would not take place because the prosecution was unable to secure the necessary witnesses for that day. Consequently, the proceedings have been adjourned and are set to resume on September 10. Among those expected to testify in future sessions is the complainant. There are reports indicating that potential issues regarding the methods of the complainant's testimony may arise, which may involve special arrangements for her appearance before the court.
