Cypriot athletes compete at the Balkan Downhill Championship in Romania
The Balkan Downhill Championship took place on July 24 and 25 in the mountains of Poiana Brasov, Romania, featuring participation from five Cypriot athletes who competed against top-tier regional talent.
Cypriot champion Andreas Theodorou secured 6th place in the Balkan Championship and 15th place overall, while Nadia Theocharidou achieved a 5th place finish. In the youth categories, Omiros Panagi finished 11th in the U17 class, and Daniel Yonkov placed 11th in the U19 category. Dimitris Kittenis, another member of the team, suffered an injury during a practice session on the day of the final and was unable to compete in the championship race.
The tournament highlighted the ongoing development of downhill mountain biking in Cyprus, marking a significant step for the nation's international presence in the sport. The performance of these athletes underscores the growing competitiveness of Cypriot cycling on the regional stage.
