Cabinet reshuffle in Cyprus expected as consultations conclude

President Nikos Christodoulides is expected to announce a cabinet reshuffle in Cyprus imminently, following intense political consultations that concluded on July 31, 2026. Government officials have indicated that the composition of the new cabinet is nearing finalization, with potential announcements coming as early as today or during the weekend.

The reorganization follows internal deliberations within the DIKO party, where leader Nikolas Papadopoulos reportedly sought a larger government presence—proposing either three ministries and two deputy ministries, or four ministries and one deputy ministry. However, the party's ministers, Neofytos Charalambidis and Michalis Damianou, aligned with President Christodoulides’ preference for a more modest expansion. Reports suggest the final agreement will include three new DIKO members and two appointees from the DISY party in the cabinet, alongside potential internal ministerial shifts and the appointment of a new official in the President’s office.

Alongside these cabinet changes, the government is also working on appointments for semi-governmental organizations, with those decisions expected by next Wednesday. The reshuffle is anticipated to have a center-right orientation, reinforcing the President's administrative strategy.
