Cyprus cabinet reshuffle delayed as diplomatic efforts for reunification intensify

President Nikos Christodoulides has delayed a planned cabinet reshuffle that was expected on July 31, 2026. The postponement follows internal delays in finalizing key appointments, specifically concerning the Deputy Ministry of Tourism. Reports suggest a broad restructuring aimed at strengthening ties with the centre-right, including the potential appointment of Tina Pavlou to the Health Ministry and Christos Angelides to the Deputy Ministry of Tourism. Other expected shifts include moving Neofytos Charalambides from Health to the Transport Ministry and appointing Christos Senekis as Agriculture Minister, while Klea Papaellina is set to transition to the Deputy Ministry of Culture.

Simultaneously, the Cypriot government has commenced technical-level preparations with the United Nations to convene a successful expanded conference on the Cyprus issue. President Christodoulides confirmed that a constitutional law academic has been hired by the UN to work on existing convergences throughout August. The president held a high-level meeting with Raffaele Fitto, the European Commission's Executive Vice-President and special representative for Cyprus, to coordinate steps toward restarting formal peace negotiations from the point where they were previously interrupted.
