Nicosia Criminal Court reserves decision on document disclosure in Central Prisons case

On Friday, July 31, 2026, the Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia reserved its decision regarding the disclosure of specific documents in the ongoing case involving the Central Prisons of Cyprus. The court is tasked with determining whether certain documents, which the prosecution has withheld citing legal exemptions, should be excluded from the evidentiary material presented to the defense.

During the previous session, the court requested clarifications from the prosecution representative, Anna Matthaiou, on three main issues: the status of specific documents regarding their delivery to the defense, the handling of privileged lawyer-client communications found within the seized materials, and the legal requirement for the defense to demonstrate how the lack of these documents specifically impairs their ability to proceed. Following the presentation of arguments from both the prosecution and the defense, the court adjourned the session.

The court has officially scheduled the next hearing for September 22, 2026, at 09:30, at which time the final decision on the admissibility and disclosure of these disputed documents will be announced.
