Cypriot House President meets with new Portuguese Ambassador

On Friday, July 31, 2026, the President of the Cypriot House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, held a meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of Portugal to Cyprus, Carmen Silvestre. The discussion focused on strengthening bilateral relations, promoting parliamentary cooperation, and addressing the ongoing Cyprus issue.

During the meeting, Demetriou emphasized the significance of recent visits to Cyprus by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and European Commission Executive Vice-President Raffaele Fitto. She highlighted the necessity of these diplomatic efforts in creating momentum for the resumption of substantive negotiations aimed at achieving a fair and sustainable solution to the Cyprus problem, based on international law and UN resolutions. Demetriou also expressed gratitude for the support received from partner countries such as Portugal.
