DISY party intervenes in municipal funding dispute in Cyprus

The Democratic Rally (DISY) party has officially registered a request for a parliamentary review regarding state funding for municipalities in Cyprus. This legislative action follows a public confrontation between local government authorities and the central administration concerning the adequacy of state grants provided to local bodies.

In response to the fiscal dispute, the Union of Municipalities has scheduled a three-hour protest strike for August 3. DISY emphasized that sustainable funding is a fundamental requirement for the effective delivery of municipal services, the improvement of daily life for citizens, and the execution of essential local development projects. The party aims to contribute to a formal dialogue within the Parliamentary Committee on Internal Affairs to establish a long-term funding framework that aligns with the current responsibilities and mandates of local authorities.
