Mesa Geitonia deputy mayor addresses municipal waste cleanup concerns
A resident of the Mesa Geitonia area in Limassol, identified as Ms. Melanie, issued a public complaint on July 31, 2026, regarding recurring sanitation issues. She reported that waste collection services consistently left debris scattered on sidewalks and roads after emptying bins, resulting in odors and attracting pests and stray animals.
Following the publication of the complaint, the Deputy Mayor of Mesa Geitonia, Marios Protopapas, intervened immediately on August 1, 2026. He confirmed that the municipal sanitation department was dispatched to clear the area promptly. Additionally, municipal officials issued formal recommendations to the specific resident accused of improperly discarding waste and to the building manager of the apartment complex, aiming to ensure compliance with waste disposal protocols and prevent future occurrences of such hygiene hazards.
