Officials discuss improvements to Polis Chrysochous Hospital operations

On Friday, July 31, 2026, the Mayor of Polis Chrysochous, Yiotis Papachristofi, met with Health Minister Neofytos Charalambidis in Nicosia to address operational and staffing deficits at the Polis Chrysochous Hospital. The meeting, attended by representatives from the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY) and local officials, focused on securing permanent medical staff and enhancing emergency services in the region.

Key commitments include recruiting a second cardiologist for Paphos Hospital, which will allow the current cardiologist to work exclusively at Polis Chrysochous Hospital, with an immediate increase in on-call shifts. Other planned improvements include the 24-hour operation of two ambulance crews, the addition of two nurses, and extended hours for the hospital’s laboratory. Furthermore, a new radiologist is expected to be hired by the end of 2026. Regarding the construction of a new hospital facility, the tender for construction works is scheduled for October 2026, with an anticipated contract award in March 2027.

These measures follow long-standing concerns regarding limited medical coverage in the area. The discussions were described as productive, with both the ministry and municipal authorities emphasizing the need for both immediate operational support and the long-term infrastructure project previously announced by the President.
