Fatal truck accident on the Athens-Lamia National Road

A fatal traffic accident involving two trucks occurred shortly after 7:00 on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the 123rd kilometer of the Athens-Lamia National Road near the Martino bridge. The collision led to the death of one driver and triggered a large-scale emergency response, resulting in the temporary closure of both directions of the highway to manage traffic and clear the site.

According to reports, the crash unfolded when one truck, driven by a Bulgarian national, reportedly lost control, crossed over the central divider, and entered the opposite traffic lane. The second truck driver attempted to avoid the impact but failed; consequently, one vehicle overturned off the roadway, while the second struck the concrete divider and erupted into flames. The driver of the overturned vehicle was recovered deceased.
