Severe wildfires ravage Porto Germeno and Boeotia regions in Greece

A massive, multi-front wildfire crisis has struck Greece, originating in Boeotia on Friday and spreading rapidly into the Attica region, specifically affecting Porto Germeno. Strong winds and extreme conditions have fueled the blaze, which has already consumed approximately 66,600 stremmata of forest land and destroyed or damaged over 100 homes. Emergency authorities have issued numerous evacuation orders via the 112 emergency service for residents in settlements including Agia Paraskevi, Kryo Pigadi, Agios Nektarios, Veniza, Psatha, and Livadostra.

As of August 2, approximately 500 firefighters, including specialized teams from France and Romania, are battling the flames alongside volunteers using 134 vehicles, 19 aircraft, and 11 helicopters. Ground crews are focused on preventing the fire from reaching Megara, Vilia, and other populated areas. Aerial operations have been intermittently suspended due to turbulence and severe weather. Two firefighters have been reported injured, one suffering a cardiac incident. The fire continues to spread across Mount Cithaeron, threatening residential zones near the urban center of Athens.
