Omonia prepares for Europa League third qualifying round against Lincoln Red Imps

Omonia Nicosia is preparing for its upcoming third qualifying round matches in the UEFA Europa League against the Gibraltar champions, Lincoln Red Imps. Although the Cypriot club enters the tie as the clear favorite, team officials emphasize that success will require serious preparation and focus, as any underestimation could prove costly.

Gibraltar is currently ranked 48th in Europe, and its domestic league is characterized by a reliance on foreign players, particularly Spaniards in the twilight of their careers. A notable example is 35-year-old winger Manuel Torres, who previously played for AEL Limassol between 2018 and 2022. Torres, who recorded five goals and 13 assists in 32 matches during the 2020-2021 season, played last season for St Joseph's, which finished second in the Gibraltar league, nine points behind the champions, Lincoln Red Imps.

The fixture highlights the evolving, albeit modest, professionalization of football in Gibraltar.
