Cypriot athletes conclude competition at the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

On Saturday, August 1, the Cypriot track and field team concluded its participation in the 23rd Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow. The final day of competition for the team involved four athletes participating in various field events.

In the men’s pole vault, Christos Tamanis secured ninth place by clearing 5.10m on his third attempt, while Dimitris Christofi cleared 4.90m but failed at 5.10m. In the women’s javelin, Christiana Ellina finished in 8th place with a best throw of 49.38m. Meanwhile, in the women’s long jump, Filippa Fotopoulou finished 12th after failing to qualify for the top eight, recording a best jump of 6.26m following two initial invalid attempts.

The Cyprus Olympic Committee officially commended the entire team for their performance throughout the games. The delegation’s success is notably marked by the earlier medal wins achieved by Iosif Kesidis and Milan Trajkovic during the initial days of the event, which the committee highlighted as a significant achievement for the national federation.
