Cypriot track and field team concludes 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

The Cypriot track and field team concluded its participation at the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on August 1, 2026, following six days of competition that began on July 27. Thirteen athletes represented Cyprus at the Scotstoun Stadium, facing challenging weather conditions including cold, strong winds, and heavy rain throughout the event.

On the final day, Christos Tamanis placed ninth in the men's pole vault (5.10m), while Dimitris Christofi cleared 4.90m. In the women's javelin, Christiana Ellina finished eighth with a best throw of 49.38m, and Philippa Fotopoulou took 12th place in the long jump with a best effort of 6.26m. Earlier in the event, Iosif Michalis Papas secured sixth place in the discus throw with a distance of 59.31m. The Cyprus Olympic Committee praised the athletes for their performance, notably highlighting the two medals won by Iosif Keskidis and Milan Trajkovic during the opening days of the games.

Despite the competitive environment and the presence of world-class athletes, the Cyprus Amateur Athletic Association expressed satisfaction with the team's efforts, noting that all thirteen participants had met the strict qualification standards set by the International Commonwealth Games Committee.
