17-year-old motorcyclist dies following Limassol road accident
A 17-year-old Romanian national, identified as Mario Gabriel, has passed away following a serious road collision in Limassol. The accident occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, on Spyrou Araouzou Street, when the motorcycle ridden by the teenager collided with a car driven by a 37-year-old man. The teenager, who was not wearing a safety helmet, was transported to a private hospital with severe traumatic brain injuries, a lung contusion, and facial bleeding. Despite undergoing emergency surgery and being placed on life support in the intensive care unit, he succumbed to his injuries on the morning of Tuesday, August 4.
Limassol traffic police are actively investigating the incident. According to reports from the Cyprus Times, authorities have secured video footage indicating that the teenager allegedly ran a red light before colliding with the vehicle. An alcohol test performed on the 37-year-old driver returned a negative result. This tragic event coincides with another recent fatality in Limassol involving a 24-year-old scooter rider, highlighting a period of increased road accidents in the region.
