Two young men die following separate traffic accidents in Limassol

Two young men succumbed to their injuries on August 4, 2026, following separate traffic accidents in Limassol. Seventeen-year-old Mario Gabriel from Romania died in a private hospital after his motorcycle collided with a taxi on the coastal road at the Anexartisias junction on August 2. According to police reports and video evidence, Gabriel failed to stop at a red traffic light and was not wearing a safety helmet. He passed away on his 17th birthday. The 37-year-old taxi driver involved in the incident tested negative for alcohol and narcotics.

Separately, 25-year-old Ibrahim Al Aawad from Syria died from injuries sustained in a collision that occurred on July 26, 2026. Al Aawad was riding an electric scooter on Solon Street when he collided with a car. Authorities noted that the scooter rider was not wearing a helmet or reflective gear, and he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign. The 20-year-old driver of the car initially fled the scene but was later arrested; he admitted to leaving because he lacked valid driving documents. Post-mortem examinations confirmed that both victims died from severe craniocerebral injuries.
