Fire broke out near Arediou community

A fire broke out on the afternoon of Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 16:41, in a ravine located west of the Arediou community. The blaze consumed approximately two decares of dry grass, wild vegetation, and large piles of garbage. As a result of the fire and the high temperatures, irrigation hoses in a nearby orchard sustained damage.

A significant emergency response was initiated to contain the incident. The operation involved five fire trucks from the Fire Service, four from the Forestry Department, two water carriers, and a specialized bulldozer. Aerial support was provided by two firefighting aircraft, while volunteer groups Support-CY and ATLAS-DIAS contributed two vehicles each. Additionally, the Civil Defense force assisted with one mobile unit. Initial assessments indicate that the fire was likely ignited by garbage dumped within the ravine.
