Cyprus completes the 2026 Commonwealth Games with 12 medals

The Cypriot delegation concluded its participation in the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, held from July 23 to August 2, 2026, achieving a historic performance. Cyprus secured the 14th position in the overall medal table among 74 participating nations, amassing a total of 12 medals: one gold, five silver, and six bronze.

The final highlight of the Games was judoka Giannis Antoniou, who won the country's only gold medal in the men’s +100kg category on the last day of the event. Antoniou, who also served as the flag bearer during the closing ceremony, led a successful judo campaign that contributed six of the total medals. Other notable contributors included Odysseas Georgakis (bronze, -81kg), Zanet Michaelidou (bronze, -78kg), Georgios Kroussaniotakis (bronze, -100kg), Sofia Asvesta (silver, -52kg), and Giorgi Balartashvili and Petros Christodoulides, who secured silver and bronze in the -66kg category, respectively. Previous medals were also won in gymnastics, athletics, and weightlifting.

Following the conclusion of the event, President Nikos Christodoulides issued a statement congratulating the 36-member delegation for their hard work and dedication. The next edition of the Commonwealth Games is scheduled for 2030 in Ahmedabad, India.
