Cyprus police launch nationwide speed control campaign
The Cyprus Police have announced a nationwide week-long campaign focused on speed enforcement and public awareness to enhance road safety. The operation is scheduled to take place from Monday, August 3, 2026, through Sunday, August 9, 2026.
This initiative is being conducted in coordination with the European Roads Policing Network (ROADPOL) and is synchronized with similar efforts across all European Union member states. Authorities emphasized that excessive speed is a primary factor in the severity of road accidents, noting that data from the past four years shows that one in every ten fatal accidents is primarily attributed to speeding.
The campaign aims to prevent traffic collisions by intensifying police presence and monitoring on roads across the island. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to reduce fatalities and improve driver compliance with traffic regulations throughout Cyprus.
