Cyprus police launch nationwide speed enforcement campaign

The Cyprus Police have launched a nationwide enforcement and awareness campaign targeting speeding, which began on August 3, 2026, and is scheduled to continue through August 9, 2026. This initiative is being conducted in coordination with the European Traffic Police Network (ROADPOL) and is taking place simultaneously across all European Union member states. The primary objective of these intensive traffic checks is to enhance road safety and reduce the number of accidents, given that statistics from the past four years indicate that speeding is the leading cause in one out of every ten fatal road collisions.

Following the announcement, initial enforcement actions were carried out, resulting in significant activity. During a series of organized patrols across urban areas to ensure public order, authorities checked 525 vehicles and 681 individuals. Among the outcomes were 293 traffic citations, with 106 related specifically to speeding violations. Furthermore, 13 vehicles were impounded during the operations, and police continue to monitor roads to prevent further traffic offenses.
