Cyprus police launch week-long speed enforcement campaign

The Cyprus Police have launched a nationwide week-long campaign focused on speed enforcement, running from Monday, August 3, through Sunday, August 9, 2026. This initiative is designed to improve road safety and prevent traffic collisions by strictly monitoring vehicle speeds across the island.

The operation is being conducted in coordination with the European Roads Policing Network (ROADPOL) and is taking place simultaneously across all European Union member states. Police authorities identified excessive speed as a primary factor in both the severity and the outcome of traffic accidents. Official statistics from the past four years highlight the urgency of these measures, revealing that approximately one out of every ten fatal road collisions on the island is directly attributed to speeding.
