Afghan suspect arrested for the murder of British woman in Kypseli

On July 18, 2026, the body of 38-year-old British national Elisabeth Jane Ross was discovered inside a suitcase within an abandoned building in the Kypseli neighborhood of Athens. Ross, a Scottish woman who arrived in Greece from Edinburgh on June 29, 2026, had been reported missing prior to the discovery. Greek police arrested a 26-year-old Afghan national, identified by some reports as Sharif Ahmadzai, who allegedly confessed to the crime.

The suspect, a professional boxer who arrived in Greece as an unaccompanied minor in 2016, was identified after his partner, a British national, provided critical testimony to authorities. He faces charges of premeditated homicide, robbery, and possession of prohibited weapons, specifically a replica pistol and a knife found at his home.
