Cypriot football clubs undergo significant roster overhauls

As of August 2, 2026, Cypriot football clubs are undergoing a massive transformation of their squads, with over 70 roster changes reported among Karmiotissa, Omonia 29M, and Nea Salamina alone. These clubs have recognized that their previous rosters were insufficient for their competitive goals, leading to extensive restructuring. Karmiotissa has replaced 28 players, Omonia 29M 25, and Nea Salamina 19.

Teams have been categorized by their recruitment strategies. A first group including Olympiakos, Karmiotissa, AEL, Omonia 29M, and ENY has carried out between 24 and 32 moves, essentially building entirely new starting lineups. A second group, including AEK, APOEL, Aris, and Nea Salamina, has conducted between 19 and 22 moves, focusing on balancing departures with targeted additions. Finally, teams like Apollon, Pafos FC, and Omonia have made fewer, though still significant, changes.

The primary challenge for these clubs is no longer quantity but establishing a cohesive core. While some teams have replaced players directly, others like Nea Salamina are focusing on increasing squad depth to meet their long-term objectives.
