Series of wildfires break out in Limassol district

Over the past few days, the Limassol district in Cyprus has faced a series of wildfire incidents. On August 2, a minor blaze near the Monastery of Saints Sergius and Bacchus in Monagri was quickly contained. Subsequently, on August 3, a larger fire erupted at 03:30 in a difficult-to-reach forest area of Prasteio Kellakiou. This fire burned approximately two hectares of pine forest before being fully controlled by 07:00 through the coordinated efforts of the Forestry Department, the Fire Service, and volunteers. Authorities are currently investigating the possibility that this fire was caused by the improper disposal of live coals in a trash bin, which prompted a warning to the public through the CY Alert system.

On the morning of August 4, new wildfire activity was reported in the area between Lania and Limnatis. Emergency services, including ground forces from the Forestry Department and the Fire Service, along with five aircraft, were immediately deployed to manage the situation. Authorities remain on high alert across the region to prevent further flare-ups, as fire safety officials emphasize the critical danger posed by human negligence in rural areas.
