Two wildfires contained in Limassol and Larnaca districts

On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, authorities in Cyprus successfully contained two separate wildfire incidents. The first blaze erupted at 11:15 in the Anendrada area, near Agios Mamas in the Limassol district, and was fully controlled by 12:40. The fire consumed 1.5 hectares of agricultural and wild vegetation. Authorities determined the cause was sparks from metal-cutting tools (angle grinders) used by individuals who fled the scene. A large emergency force involving 45 Forestry Department personnel, 17 firefighters, 8 district administration staff, and 6 Civil Defense members, supported by 5 aircraft, participated in the operation.

Separately, a second fire broke out in the afternoon near the foothills of the Stavrovouni forest in the Larnaca district, specifically within the Anglisides area. This blaze, attributed to beekeeping activities, started around 16:50 and was brought under control by 17:30. It burned approximately 0.4 hectares of crops and low vegetation. Response efforts included 30 Forestry Department personnel, 10 firefighters, volunteers, and heavy machinery, aided again by 5 aerial assets. No residential areas were threatened in either incident, and investigations into the specific individuals responsible for the Limassol fire are ongoing.
