Customs officers seize 28 kilograms of illicit animal products at Deryneia crossing

On August 1, 2026, customs officers at the Deryneia crossing point conducted a routine inspection of a vehicle, resulting in the discovery of over 28 kilograms of animal products. The items, which were being transported in violation of the Green Line Regulation, were found in two freezer bags within the vehicle's storage compartment. The driver, a 43-year-old woman holding Cypriot citizenship, was accompanied by a 47-year-old Greek Cypriot passenger.

The seized cargo included 8 kilograms of fresh chicken pieces, 8 kilograms of chicken offal, 8.75 kilograms of whole fresh chicken, 48 quail eggs, 700 grams of cheese, 1 liter of kefir, 2.25 kilograms of yogurt, and 275 grams of sausages. The products were confiscated and are slated for destruction according to official protocols.

The 43-year-old driver was initially arrested for the unauthorized import attempt and for demonstrating inappropriate and aggressive behavior toward the inspecting officer. Following her temporary detention, she was released after accepting an out-of-court settlement for the offenses. No further legal action or court proceedings were reported following the financial compromise.
